The Wa Municipal Assembly conducted its monthly cleanup exercise on 4th July 2026 from 5:00am to 5:00pm in line with the National Sanitation Day. The exercise focused on Wa Central Market, Wa Bus Terminal, and major drains within the township. Activities included desilting of choked gutters, sweeping streets, collection of solid waste, and clearing of weeds. The exercise saw participation from Assembly Members, Municipal Staff, Environmental Health Officers, Zoom lion, Sanitation Guards, market women and community members. Observations made indicated high levels of indiscriminate waste dumping and heavily choked drains with plastics, though public turnout was encouraging. Despite the progress made, challenges such as, insufficient cleaning tools, and low compliance to waste disposal regulations were noted. To sustain gains, the Assembly recommends the provision of more skip containers and bins at strategic points, intensified public education on proper waste segregation, strict enforcement of sanitation bylaws, and regular supply of working tools. The cleanup exercise contributed to improving sanitation in the municipality and renewed awareness on collective responsibility for a clean environment.
