About Us

Wa Municipal is one of the eleven districts in Upper West Region, Ghana. Originally created as an ordinary district assembly in 1988 when it was known as Wa District, until two parts of the district were later split off by a decree of president John Agyekum Kufuor on July 2004 to create Wa East District (from the east) and Wa West District (from the west) respectively; thus the remaining part was later elevated to municipal district assembly status on the same year to become Wa Municipal. The municipality is located in the southern part of Upper West Region and has Wa as its capital town, which also serves as the regional capital of the Upper West Region.

Vision

The Wa Municipal Assembly has the vision to become “a Model Municipal assembly that is self-sustaining in resource mobilization and delivering world class client services through the provision of standard socio-economic infrastructure and services”.

Mission

The Wa Municipal Assembly exists to improve the quality of life of the people through harnessing human and material resources for the provision of basic infrastructure and Socio-Economic Services.

Our Core Values

The Wa Municipal Assembly derived its core values from the Local Government Service Protocols.

It has currently adopted Four (4) out of the six (6) Service Delivery Standards as its core values to serve as guiding principles. These Core values define the attitudes and behaviors that will required of staff to make the Vision a reality. They are:

  • Professionalism- being professional, good skill, good judgment, and polite behavior is a hall mark of staff of the Assembly trained to perform specific staff.
  • Client Focus- putting the people / client first.
  • Transparency – openness, communication, and accountability.
  • Accountability- accepting responsibility for our own actions.
