Alhaji Nurah Issah Danwana, the Wa Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), today, July 22, 2025, commissioned a new two-unit kindergarten (KG) block at the Upper West Regional Hospital. The furnished block is designed to provide childcare for the children of hospital staff, allowing parents to focus on delivering quality healthcare services to patients.
Mr. Francis Luguniah, the hospital administrator, expressed his sincere gratitude to the MCE and the Wa Metropolitan Assembly for their crucial support in the construction and furnishing of the project. He also extended thanks to the previous director of the Upper West Regional Hospital for initiating and lobbying for the project before his transfer.
Mr. Luguniah took the opportunity to appeal to the MCE for further assistance, specifically requesting the construction of an oncology unit. This unit would enable the hospital to provide essential cancer diagnosis and treatment services to the residents of the Upper West Region.

In his response, MCE Alhaji Nurah Issah Danwana acknowledged and appreciated the contributions of everyone involved in bringing the project to fruition. He emphasized the profound importance of education and its positive impact on both individuals and the community, highlighting the particular benefit of having a dedicated school block within the hospital premises for staff children.
The MCE also pleaded with the hospital management to diligently maintain the new facility, ensuring it remains in excellent condition and is used solely for its intended purpose. He further hinted that he and the Member of Parliament, Hon Rashid Pelpuo are actively lobbying and working tirelessly to secure the construction of an MRI scanner, diagnosis and cancer treatment center in the Wa Metropolitan, addressing the hospital’s request directly.
